While everyone is anxiously awaiting the release of the new Nexus line, and pouring over the full details for 4.2 Jelly Bean, we wanted to take a few minutes and update everyone on the state of Team BAKED, Black Bean ROM, our plans for the future, and how you might be a part of them.

Now:

Black Bean 6 is our latest full release, and it has seen fantastic download traffic. We are currently working on Black Bean 7, and this will be our final release under our current system and framework. We want to thank all of our users and contributors for helping to make Black Bean what it is now, we are grateful for your support. The release of 4.2 Jelly Bean, and what it brings to the community, offers us a perfect starting point for a new Team BAKED, and the evolution of Black Bean ROM.

The Future:

After the release of BB 7, Team BAKED will be starting development on a brand new version of Black Bean ROM, built from the ground up, and utilizing everything that 4.2 has to offer. We simply feel that it is time to start fresh to offer the best possible ROM to our users. Going forward, we will continue to use some CyanogenMod / AOKP code, while trying to come up with our own, creative ideas. As always we will credit any one in which we use any code that they have come up with that’s not ours.

This move is precipitated by our goal of further distinguishing Team BAKED, and differentiating  Black Bean from other developers and offerings within the ROM community. We want to make sure that when you flash BB, you will see a look and feature set unlike anything else out there. Starting new development offers us a unique chance to implement all of these ideas, while causing minimal disruption to releases and support. This also offers us a chance to examine our supported devices, and place our resources in the proper places to ensure the highest level of quality and development. This area is where you can make a direct impact.

Your Contribution:

First thing, Team BAKED needs help to acquire a Galaxy S3 in order to continue our support for the device. If you enjoy Black Bean ROM, donations will be greatly appreciated, and it helps move our effort forward greatly. Donations can be made via PayPal by clicking here and using the email chaines@codemonkeyjava.com. Donations can be made via Credit/Debit card or PayPal account.

Secondly, as of this posting, Team BAKED is issuing a call for Coders and Device Maintainers. We are in need of Coders that have the ability to write XML and Java, merge code, bug fix, work with kernels and truly understand code base. Solid working knowledge of Git, Gerrit, Github and AOSP coding are also necessary. It goes without saying that you must own the device that you are coding for as well. Our current list of supported devices, remains unchanged as of now, but it is in no way a closed list. If you own a device that is not listed, and meet the above criteria, we encourage you to fill out an application form as well.

Maintainers need to understand Device Trees, and how to compile for them. We need people for the following devices:

  • Samsung Galaxy Note II
  • LG Nexus 4
  • Samsung Nexus 10
  • Asus TF300t
  • Asus TF201
  • Asus TF701t

You can apply to be a maintainer of any of the above mentioned devices, as well as a device you own that’s currently not on our list that you’d like to see be supported by Team BAKED by using the link below.

Above all else, Team BAKED is looking for people that have a great sense of humor, want to have some fun in our team based  environment, and are enthusiastic about Android!

As we move forward, it is possible that official support may cease for some of our current devices. We will always do our best to maintain all viable devices, but as part of the natural evolution of the Android platform, devices may simply “age out” of the development cycle. We will keep you abreast of any changes in support well in advance of any action on our part.

We are excited for the future of Android, Black Bean ROM, and the prospect of new blood in our development team. We have only one main goal for Black Bean ROM, to bring you a unique user experience, that only improves with time, and we will work every day to see that goal achieved. Please remember that your input is invaluable to us, and we here at Team BAKED sincerely thank you for your continued support as we move into our next development phase. If you have questions or input, you can find us on the web at http://bakedrom.com/,  or follow the team on Twitter to keep up to date on the latest builds and news.
